Sabato Says Rogers Seat "Safe Republican"
Respected Political Scientist, Larry Sabato of the University of Virginia, announced on February 25th that Mike Rogers has improved his prospects for re-election.
Sabato now labels the seat as “safe Republican,” his most optimistic designation, another sign that voters are fed up with the direction of the Nation and are laying blame at the feet of liberal policies being pushed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. “In spite of this encouraging news, I am not taking anything for granted. The people of East Alabama are hurting and our campaign is going to travel every corner of this district over the next several months to make sure that our message of lower taxes and sound economic policy is heard by voters,” said Rogers.

Mike Rogers Announces for Re-Election
Anniston, AL—Third District Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Saks) kicked off his bid for a fifth term today, before a large crowd of Democrats and Republicans that agreed Washington's Big Government, Big Tax and Spend, and nationalized healthcare agenda is taking our nation in the wrong direction.
“I want to thank the citizens of East Alabama for the privilege of representing them. If re-elected I will continue to work for your interests, as a strong conservative that will help stop the troubling Big Government agenda that national Democrats are pushing in our Nation's Capitol.”
“The people of the Third Congressional District deserve an honest and hard working representative that will fight against the tax and spend policies of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid. I have worked tirelessly to advance our conservative Alabama values, and hope I have made you proud,” he added. “Thank you for the honor of allowing me to fight for the interests of hard working Alabamians during one of the most economic challenging times in our nation's history.”
Rogers was introduced this morning by noted East Alabama Democrat Gerald Willis, who was among the many major endorsements Rogers received in his first campaign. Rogers thanked Willis and the entire audience for turning out and said he looked forward to continuing to talk with the voters about the issues that matter.

Mike Rogers Raises $275,000 in Second Quarter
Rogers’ campaign continues to work hard in preparation for 2010
Anniston, AL-Third District Congressman Mike Rogers raised over $275K in the second quarter of the year according to a recently filed Federal Election Commission report. Rogers reported having almost $262,000 in the bank, a solid cash on hand advantage.
While the Democratic Party enjoyed good news nationally in 2008, they are hitting a brick wall in the Third Congressional District of Alabama where voters continue to show strong support for Mike Rogers’ campaign.
Voters are also voicing growing concerns about the runaway borrowing and spending they have seen in Congress this year, which is led entirely by National Democrats like Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), Rogers said. Rogers opposed the Democrats’ $787 billion Stimulus Plan and their $3.2 Trillion budget, arguing both did too little to help create jobs and strengthen our economy.
“In these tough economic times, I am deeply humbled by the continued support for our campaign,” Rogers said.

Rogers to Report Over $1.1 Million in Bank
July 15, 2008
Anniston Star article* describes Rogers on energy “the very profile of pragmatism” as his campaign banks another $250,000+
Anniston, AL—Third District Congressman Mike Rogers will report a war chest of just over $1.119 million at the end of the second quarter, his campaign manager said today.
The news comes on the heels of comments last week by non-partisan political expert Stuart Rothenberg, who said in his July 8, 2008 column in Roll Call that districts across the nation like Alabama’s Third Congressional District are actually like many other safe Republican seats – races in which there is a lot of chatter but very little hope of success for challengers.
Rothenberg concludes that while the national political climate may “allow Democratic Congressional candidates to improve their showings in many districts…that is not, however, the same thing as saying that Democratic challengers will now win many districts that have been reliably Republican in the past. They won’t.”
Rogers manager Tripp Skipper said Rothenberg’s analysis sends a chilling message to the Democratic Party, which has tried cycle after cycle without success to unseat the popular and well-organized candidate Mike Rogers.
Since his first race for Congress in 2002, Rogers has not only proven to be a prolific fundraiser but has also kept full time campaign staff and spent countless hours traveling the district to hear his constituents’ concerns, he explained.
Skipper said, “Mike Rogers has arguably one of the strongest and most well-organized grassroots campaigns in the state, and that combined with his strong fundraising is where we want to be going into the Fall. People know Mike Rogers, and they know that he travels each week to Washington to fight for common sense solutions to the important challenges of our times, like high gas prices.”
Skipper said Rogers had another strong fundraising quarter, banking just over $250,000 from April to June.

Alabamians Remember Fallen Heroes
May 26, 2008
Montgomery, Al. (WSFA) -- As the nation paused on Memorial Day, Alabamians
followed suit. Many bowed their heads in prayer for the military men and
women who lost their lives.
In Prattville, residents gathered at the Autauga County Courthouse. Many in
attendance had just gotten back from the area's first Honor Flight.
"I just wanted to go down there and see some of my friends--some of my
Veterans--and enjoy the memorial that they have for us and all veterans,"
said Jim Gardner, a World War II veteran.
In Montgomery, Congressman Mike Rogers laid a wreath at the city's V.A.
hospital, while the Capital Sounds Concert Band played military tunes for
veterans and their families.
"When we think about the enormous sacrifices that so many families in this
country have made over the course of our history, you can't help but be
humbled," Rogers explained.
It wasn't just the older generations that said, 'thank you' during this
year's holiday.
